Preventing insects with air curtains

In food factories, pharmaceutical warehouses, precision equipment factories, etc., it has become commonplace to install air curtains to prevent insects.

However, if you think, “If an air curtain is attached, insects won't invade,” it becomes difficult.

“Even though an air curtain is installed, insect infestation does not decrease.”
I often receive such consultations. Why is this?

First, there is a possibility that the installation position is wrong and the air curtain is not effective enough.
This is something that must be kept in mind at the time of construction, but satisfactory insect repellent effects cannot be obtained if settings such as wind speed and wind direction are not in place even after installation.

Small featherworms, such as midges, can handle even light winds, but strong winds are necessary to prevent flies (fruit flies, houseflies, etc.) with high flight ability from invading.

However, if the direction is wrong, wind that is too strong will engulf the surrounding air, and small feather bugs etc. may be drawn into the building in reverse.

Depending on the model of the air curtain, the manufacturer indicates the types of insects that can be handled for each wind speed, so these data are used as a reference when setting.

Also, even if an air curtain is installed, insects will invade more and more if the door is always open.

Air curtains are only meant to reduce the number of insects that invade when the door is released, so it is usually assumed that the door is closed (only air curtains, complete insect protection is impossible).

If operational efforts are not made, such as reducing the number of times it is opened and closed and the opening time, the air curtain will not be able to exert sufficient power.

Installing an air curtain has a great insect repellent effect, but there are also a few things you need to keep in mind as described above.

What types of insects usually invade, and regular insect monitoring becomes important even when thinking about them to what extent they want to be suppressed.
